The Festival

The Festival is the 45th International Congress of Pueri Cantores, an international choir meeting of children‘s and youth choirs, girls‘ and boys‘ choirs. Under the motto “Cantate Domino – vielstimmig für den Frieden – #comeandsing”, 4.500 children and youths come together from 18 countries of all continents to sing, pray and celebrate together and invite you to join them. The young singers experience the great and unifying power of music when they meet each other in concerts, church services, prayers for peace, singing in social institutions, sharing meals, playing and having fun, and bringing the sounds and music to the people of the city of Munich and Bavaria.

Pueri Cantores

Pueri Cantors are young singers who proclaim and sing for peace. The federation of Catholic children's and youth choirs “Pueri Cantores” has its origins in the peace movement after the end of the Second World War, which began in France. While in the beginning the boys' choirs of the larger cathedrals joined together to form a federation, children's and youth choirs, boys' and girls' choirs from all countries are now organized at diocesan, national and international level. The community of all “Pueri” is particularly expressed in the regular congresses and choir festivals, for example every five years over New Year's Eve in Rome.

The Program

The festival in Munich starts on Wednesday, July 16 and ends on Sunday, July 20 2025. Concerts, prayers for peace, church services, open singing, workshops and much more will be held at Marienplatz, Frauenplatz, Munich Residence, various inner-city churches, social institutions and in many other venues in and around Munich.

Pueri in Concert

The festive gala concerts in Munich's most beautiful churches showcase the diversity and quality of the participating choirs. Admission is free – musical enjoyment guaranteed!

Encounter Concerts

In this concert format, choirs from all over Germany and the world come together in small, joint concerts – spontaneous, warm and full of musical diversity. Admission is free!

Festival of cultures

An evening like a musical journey around the world: At the Festival of Cultures on Marienplatz, Pueri Cantores celebrates the diversity of international choirs, their songs and musical traditions. Sounds from America, Africa, Europe and Bavarian folklore come together at the Festival of Cultures.
With flags, songs, interviews, spontaneous actions, the “German Gents”, the Eddy Miller BIGBAND, presenter Sebastian Winkler and, above all, thousands of singing young people from all over the world, Marienplatz becomes a place of musical diversity. A highlight of the festival!

Open Singing

Everyone is invited who likes to sing spontaneously. The moderated sing-along event doesn't just feature fun songs, yodeling and body percussion will also be tried out – and the whole of Marienplatz will get moving! Anyone can join in at any time, song sheets will be handed out on site. No previous knowledge is necessary!

Pueri macht Schule

Pueri Cantores invites all school classes in Munich and the surrounding area to sing together with the festival choirs on Marienplatz. The BR presenters Sebastian Winkler and Traudi Siferlinger, together with a large stage choir, will lead the pupils and festival participants in an entertaining way to let their voices ring out and experience the power of singing together.

Singing in social institutions

People who are not mobile or have other disabilities should also be able to take part in the festival. That's why the young singers bring the music to them to share the joy of singing and encounter in small concerts on site.

Prayers for peace

The young singers sing and pray for peace – in line with the vision of the international association Pueri Cantores, which was founded after the Second World War. In various groups, they will perform the musical prayers for peace in the Frauenkirche for two days.

Church services

Native-language services, which the participants will perform musically, will take place in numerous inner-city churches. A central closing service with H.E. Cardinal Marx on Marienplatz will once again bring together all the singers of the festival and all those who would like to join.

Adoration

Under the title "An Hour of Adoration", a Eucharistic adoration with music will take place in the Theatinerkirche. In addition, the Convent of the Servites can be visited throughout the festival week for silent adoration.

Workshops

In the workshops, participants explore musical and religious cultures or deal with topics that strengthen peace between cultures in small groups. In addition to Bavarian folk dancing and yodelling, the program also includes Congolese rhythms, spiritual songs from different cultures and a visit and prayer for peace at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site.

Regional day

On Saturday, the choirs fan out and explore the area surrounding the Bavarian capital. In addition to the Bavarian lakes, rallies in picturesque old towns, visits to palaces, castles and other sights, the program naturally also includes lots of fun and games. Several choirs travel together as a group and are guests at a local parish or monastery.

Pre-Festival

The Pre-Festival will take place from July 12 to 16, 2025 at numerous locations in Germany. Choirs that do not come from Germany can be hosted by a partner choir in a German (arch)diocese and thus spend a few extra days in Germany. After several days of leisure and singing together as well as a sending-out service, the choirs will travel together to the festival in Munich.
